According to The Verge, some fraudsters are using Apple's 'Find my phone' service to, hack devices and send messages, seeking 50 dollars PayPal payment as ransom money.
However, there is also the possibility that some of username and password might leak which they have used to lock the device. As the cases reported were low.
An Apple spokesperson said that iCloud was not compromised during this incident and advised users to change their passwords.
